Students have many diverse opportunities for work experience. Some of our students are doing a wonderful job working at Holly's Hair Salon, helping out in the library at Seymour Heights, and working with the Harvest Project.
Hello,
We would like to invite you to your sons and daughters Self-Directed Life Plan (SDLP) presentations on January 28h @ 1:45 pm. The students have been working exceptionally hard the past few months during our Self Determination sessions. The focal point of level 1 is to create a SDLP so that the students can have a tangible map for their life goals going forward. A Self-Directed Life Plan (SDLP) is a highly individualized process that is designed to support the focus person along with his/her family, friends, peers and support teams to achieve an inclusive life within the community. The skills that the participants will learn throughout this Self-Determination course are specifically designed to increase their quality of life in the following life domains:
Throughout our sessions the students have been learning how to identify goals that are clear and definitive, which allow him/her to focus on tasks at hand in a more efficient and achievable manner. Goal setting also helps one clearly define the course of action they will need to take so that they can monitor, evaluate and reinforce their own progress. The students now have a grasp of how to implement their own S.M.A.R.T. (see below) goals which are transferable into all other life domains. They have been directly involved in the process of how to attain goals by breaking them down into manageable steps using action plans. Christopher (Self Determination Facilitator) and Meagan and Jayne This week, we will be starting a music therapy project called the 'Bandwagon' (music therapy on the go!) with Michaela our regular music therapist. We arel very excited to have this opportunity to create music on the go!"The Music Therapy Ride is an annual motorcycle charity ride designed to raise funds for community-based music therapy services in British Columbia. Now celebrating its 14th Anniversary, MTR has raised over $750,000 as a result of its annual ride from Vancouver to Whistler. In addition to aiding Music Therapists and general Music Therapy programs, the MTR committee has funded a mobile recording studio the (Bandwagon ), as well as manufactured a mobile recording studio. The mobile studios enables Music Therapists to expand their already vital work by giving clients the ability to record the music created during their therapy sessions"
