It is nice to return to school and we want to welcome everyone back! I, Nicole MacPherson, would like to introduce Jayne Chappell the new addition to our Special Education team. She and I will be collaborating with the help of our hard working Educational Assistants to meet the needs of our students this year. Jayne is originally from England and has worked as a Special Education teacher in North Vancouver for the last three years. She is looking forward to working with students, staff and parents.
This year is going to be full: full of learning, life experience and collaboration. Thank you everyone for filling out the many forms sent home and being patient while we set up appointments for IEP meetings. This week we will be contacting you, the parents, to set up meeting to set goals for your sons/daughters.
A few notes:
1. The bus will be running next week and Frank, our very supportive bus driver, will be contacting you as soon as he has a schedule.
2. Please send your sons/daughter to school with a Personal Care Kit as each morning students will engage in a morning routine to foster independence in self-care. Their kit can include: a bag that holds a comb/brush, toothbrush, toothpaste, hair elastics, nail file, and a cloth. Thank you!
3. This year we would like to promote independence by having students use local transit when we go out on class outings (we will still use our class bus services at times). To promote this independence I recommend that you look into the "Handy Dart" pass for your son or daughter. Please take a look at the following website http://www.translink.ca/en/Rider-Guide/Accessible-Transit/HandyDART.aspx so your son/daughter can ride local transit (bus and skytrain) with their educational assistant. If you have any questions do not hesitate to contact us!
We are looking forward to working with all of you over the course of the school year. Here's to a successful year!
Sincerely,
Nicole MacPherson & Jayne Chappell
